What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry means the dentist provides safe medication to help the patient relax during a dental procedure. Patients who feel uneasy about dental work or simply want a longer appointment to go by quickly benefit from sedation.

Sedation Options We Offer
Our practice offers nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous oxide is a fast-acting, safe gas that works by displacing a small amount of oxygen in your blood. Patients feel relaxed, calm, and sometimes euphoric while under the effects of nitrous oxide.
The dentist places a small mask over your nose to administer nitrous oxide. You will breathe in the gas during your procedure, creating a relaxing sensation and helping make your procedure more comfortable.
At the close of the procedure, the dentist gradually turns down the nitrous oxide and turns up the oxygen flowing through your mask. After removing the oxygen, you will only need to rest for a few minutes before leaving the office alone. You can drive home and resume all normal activities immediately after your procedure.
Are You A Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation using nitrous oxide is safe for a majority of dental patients. However, some conditions mean you should seek a professional opinion before undergoing sedation.
Patients who have the following medical conditions should consult Dr. Cowell and their primary care physician before undergoing sedation dentistry treatment:
● Pregnancy
● Chronic respiratory illness like COPD or asthma
● Sleep apnea
● Diabetes
● Older persons
